How to get involved

Why get involved with KNH?

There are lots of reasons why you might want to get involved in influencing what we do in your area and having your say:

  • There may be particular issues which you think are not being addressed
  • You might want to work with other people to improve the area
  • You might want to stay up to date with what’s going on locally

KNH wants to know what people think so we can make sure our services are the right ones, delivered in the right way – your views help us do that.

Our commitment to involve you

Our Community Involvement pledge is a shared commitment between KNH, Communities who Can and Kirklees Council and outlines different ways you can get involved and how important it is to us that you do.

How you can get involved

Tenants and Residents Associations

A TRA is a group of people who get together to work to improve the area in which they live and build community spirit. They campaign for better services, improvements to the environment and tenants  homes and organise activities that bring people closer together. KNH works very closely with TRAs in delivering its services and monitoring how well it is doing.

To see if there is a TRA in your area, if you would like more information or would like to help set up a TRA in your area, contact Communities who can.

Community Voices

A community voice is someone who has agreed to represent their neighbours’ views to KNH and are the link between KNH and the residents. They may be asked to pass out information to residents, speak to them about local issues and feed back views to KNH, so that KNH is able to understand what it is like to live there. For more information, contact Communities who can.

Tenant and Resident Committees

These are a formal way for KNH to consult with tenants and residents. There are four committees, one for each KNH neighbourhood. They meet six times a year and are an opportunity for you to influence key decisions made by the KNH Board of Directors and are often key in making sure that new developments are realistic and practical.

Area Forums

Area Forums are a great way to keep up to date with what is going on. KNH organises the forums every six weeks or so to share information and consult with tenants and residents about what is happening in their area.

Discussion groups

KNH holds a range of discussion groups on particular issues with tenants and residents who have an interest in that area for example on Sheltered Housing or on Leaseholder issues. If you have a particular interest and would like to join us please let us know.

KNH uses surveys to collect and record information about particular issues. We use them when we want to measure satisfaction with particular things, collect factual information or get people’s opinions. They can be done face-to-face, by telephone, by post or by e-mail. If you would like to take part in our surveys, please let us know.

Board of Directors

The main role of the KNH Board of Directors is to ensure KNH achieves its mission of “quality homes and services in successful communities”. The Board provides strategic leadership to the company and tenant representatives are elected by tenants.

Community Activities

KNH organises a range of activities throughout the year to help people improve their environment, consult with residents, build bridges between neighbours and to celebrate local success stories. If you would like to find out more about any of these things or would like to get involved, please contact the Community Engagement Team.
